Tennis Program

Are you interested in?

  • Making new friends

  • Looking like a pro when you step onto the courts

  • Learning new techniques

  • Getting some exercise

  • Having lots of fun

Then come join the Nomahegan tennis program! The tennis program at Nomahegan is led by head Pros, Doryan Amato and Gary Wasserman, who are supported by a team of junior pros. Contact numbers and rates for lessons are listed on the bulletin board in the gatehouse.

We encourage all members interested in the tennis program to sign up for the tennis email list here. The tennis email list is the best way to receive updates and information regarding the tennis program, including details on special events and any changes to the published schedule due to weather.

New This Summer

Courts 1 through 4 have been completely rebuilt with state of the art Post-tensioned Concrete technology. We have planned an official grand opening/ribbon cutting for the tennis courts on the morning of Saturday, June 15. Also new this summer are updates to the afternoon tennis programs. The kids’ afternoon tennis program will include match play and doubles prep for intermediate and advanced junior players.

Finally, in August, adults can participate in cardio tennis during the earlier evening session (5-6 pm).

Tennis Drills

The centerpiece of tennis at Nomahegan are the daily drills. Drills are held for adults and children every weekday morning and afternoon/evening; and drills for adults take place on Saturday mornings. Drills are included in your annual membership dues and are open to all members (and their guests), of all levels of play and ability.

At the beginning of a drill session, the pro in charge will place players in small groups on courts according to player ability, pro availability, and the daily drills planned by the pro. Players may request to be placed with other members and guests, but we kindly ask that players respect the decision of the pro in charge regarding court placement and grouping. Finally, new and emerging players are always welcome at drills and events and are encouraged to identify themselves to the pro in charge for appropriate court and pro placement.

In addition to the group drills, Dory, Gary and the junior pros are available for private lessons for both individuals and small groups.

Tennis Socials

Tennis socials and events are held periodically throughout the summer. All members are invited to attend events, either as a participant or a spectator. One type of social is the Pro-Am. During a Pro-Am, you'll be matched up with one of the junior tennis pros. This "lite" tournament allows our members to have fun playing with an advanced player without the focus on winning. Food and beverages will be served at the end of the Pro-Am.

The schedule of events is published on the club calendar and can also be found at the gatehouse bulletin boards and at the tennis shed. Events, including socials and tournaments, may have an impact on certain drill times.
